By now you probably have a grasp on the importance of marketing your company using social media. Sites like Facebook have managed to weave themselves into our everyday life. How can you set your social media efforts apart from your competitors, or help your customers find you online? Direct mail.
Here are a few tips to help you jump start your online odyssey and make the most of your marketing dollars.
1. Professional social media czars are not necessary. Look around - there are probably several enthusiastic, creative, opinionated employees that would relish the opportunity to get paid while tweeting. 2. Decide the best use for social media for your product/service. Integrate it smartly into your next direct mail piece. Include a QR code that leads to your blog. Mail a postcard with the offer of 10% off your next purchase when they follow your Twitter account. 3. Use analytics from your social media sites to mine data regarding your audience. Cultivate that information to send personalized offers via direct mail. 4. Keep in mind that your posts not only represent you but your boss, the CEO, and the company as a whole. Avoid controversial topics, never insult a customer or co worker, and check your spelling. 5. Targeted marketing means understanding your audience and catering to their desires. Why not use a social media site to collect demographic information about an interested party, then follow up with a personalized mail piece? 6. Multiply your customer base using social sharing. For example, Amanda receives a postcard from her favorite shoe store with a PURL (personalized URL). When she enters the address, Amanda (specifically) is welcomed to their website and offered free shipping on her next order. Amanda can then "share" her good fortune by posting it to her friend Katie's wall. Katie clicks the invite and receives her own personalized greeting. The shoe store is the big winner - their postcard garnered not one but two interested people. The shoe store can even track who shares the offer, and when.
